UNESCO-listed medieval monasteries, Ottoman mosques and hammams, layers of empire in every old town.

All experiences

Few countries this small hold so many layers. Byzantine and Serbian Orthodox monasteries keep frescoes that have glowed for seven centuries, four of them UNESCO World Heritage sites. Ottoman rule left mosques, hammams and stone bridges in the old towns of Prizren and Gjakova. To walk these places is to read Kosovo's history in stone and paint, empire by empire, all of it still in daily use.
